Soft tissue therapy is the growing field combining assessment and self care advice with traditional sports massage and special tissue techniques. In a time when we are all pushing ourselves harder in work, sport and lifestyle it is vital to make sure our bodies are working exactly as they should.

To assist with this I offer the following treatments

Any appointment will begin with a detailed assessment to find the root cause of your problem. Many muscles in the body are connected and impact upon each other. These connections can result in pain being felt in one location but the issue being somewhere else. Steve will then discuss with you the findings of the assessment and how best to treat you.The session will finish with advice on movement patterns and exercises to help increase the benefit of the treatment.

Standard appointments are 1 hour long, but your needs will be discussed and shorter or longer appointments will be advised as necessary.

General Massage

This will be used at the beginning of many treatments and will bring warmth to the area being treated. These general techniques are useful to relax the tissue to be treated and allow me to pin point areas of tension and restriction.

Neuromuscular Technique

Points of excessive muscle tension are often found within problem areas and can also cause referred pain to connected areas. Neuromuscular technique targets these sites of extreme tension, or trigger points, and through sustained pressure help to not only help release any dysfunction in the tissue, but to also influence the neurological connections causing the tension.

Soft Tissue Release

Soft tissue release allows the release of specific points of tension within a length of muscle. The therapist artificially changes the length of muscle and stretches the tissue as it moves. This allows for segments of the muscle group to be stretched promoting healing and reducing restrictions that are not able to be targeted by traditional broad stretching.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is a connective tissue that forms a network around tissue groups all over the body. There are often long links between connected areas of the body and myofascial release allows us to release tension by stretching these fascial chains.

Post treatment stretching and rehab advice

A treatment is a fantastic start to reducing pain and increasing functionality, but it works best when paired with with a directed mobility and strengthening program. During our assessment and treatment we will work together to find the cause of the problem. As well as immediately treating these issues we will discuss which stretches and exercises would be best suited to achieve the most from the therapy appointments.

Deep Tissue Massage

This is a follow on of general massage techniques and is used to work on deeper muscle tissue that lies beneath the more superficial muscles.

Muscle Energy Technique

Limited range of movement of a joint can effect functional and efficient movement. This can lead to pain and restriction and often produce asymmetries which can effect posture or gait. Muscle energy technique is used to increase the range of movement by helping to reset sensory receptors within the tissue holding the joint back from its full range.

Positional Release

Positional release can be used when severe tension and pain occur in a muscle group. The area to be treated will be brought with no exertion from the client into its position of greatest ease. The area will then held held in this position for a period of time allowing the tension and pain to decrease.

Pre/Post Event Treatments

These treatments can range from making sure all the muscles that are about to be worked during an event are functioning to their full ability. This can be the increasing of range of movement, releasing areas of tension, fully warming up tissue that is about to be worked and increase positional awareness in the movements required. After an event a treatment would focus on optimal muscle recovery and general relaxation.

The treatment fee is £50 for a one hour session.
Steve is also available for event or corporate work, please contact us by email to discuss your specific needs.
